Buyer - Portland, OR 

The Buyer is responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and/or services from suppliers. This position prepares and evaluates supplier quotations and services to determine most competitive solution based upon a total cost of ownership.  The Buyer is also responsible for supplier quality and overall performance, while establishing standard costs for purchased materials.

Functional Skills

  1. Completes basic level negotiations and analysis following prescribed procedures. 

  2. Uses existing contracts and understands department initiatives and strategies. 

  3. Executes projects under leadership of experienced purchasing associates Prepare sourcing data and reports for research on potential suppliers following prescribed procedures.

  4. Follow-up the status of purchase orders with vendors to ensure timely delivery.  

  5. Identify various vendors for one product / services, conduct reference checks on vendor, front end with the vendor to explain the requirement, get and validate the quote, first level negotiation and conduct cost effectiveness analysis.

  6. Report and recommend the potential vendor based on merits and cost.

  7. Responsible to follow the prescribed procedures, implementation of functional initiatives and coordinate with other functions and vendors to ensure the requirement is met just on time.

  8. Uses limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 

  9. Directly involved with supplier performance management.

Skills/Requirements

2-5 years of experience or related experience preferred in the field of Purchasing, Material Control and/or Production Control with high value placed on manufacturing related purchasing experience.  Four-year degree in the fields of Supply Chain management, business, industrial engineering required. Computer literate in Microsoft Office, SAP a plus.  Diversified commodity exposure in components, raw materials and/or services. International purchasing experience beneficial.  Ability to work effectively in cross-functional team.
