The Staff Engineer will be responsible for ongoing facilities support and project management between all Kohler Power Systems locations to best support cost effective building utilization and successful project implementation. Included in these responsibilities are project research and business case justification, supporting needs of operations groups including manufacturing, materials, purchasing, and quality, authoring ACT’s, project management including implementation and startup, and coordinating engineering efforts between outside and inside resources.
Maintain and support building systems and forecast future capital investments. Building systems include security and fire suppression, IT network including Wi-Fi and cellular, utilities including sub-stations, transformers, and switchgear, stand-by generators, UPS, heating and cooling for building and process, fuel systems (storage and delivery), and test cell infrastructure including electrical distribution and load banks. Proper maintenance includes updating building drawing infrastructure.
Support skilled trades with technical knowledge and teaching best practices, including preventive maintenance, lock-out tag-out, predictive failure analysis, and maintaining equipment documentation.
Ensure consistent practices and engineering support to other Power Systems facilities including Saukville, Singapore, Changzhou, China, Aurangabad, India and other future facilities and locations. Support needs of materials group with KWIP and Muth warehousing requirements.
Lead or support international project teams, as needed or assigned, to execute capital projects on time and on budget according to ACT scope requirements.
Assist with coordination of relocating manufacturing operations between KPS facilities worldwide.
Support cost reduction strategies with technical expertise and project management.
Support Kohler Power Systems sustainability including supporting and/or acting as Energy Champion and monitoring plant energy usage and suggesting ways to reduce consumption.
Monitor new technical developments for possible application with Kohler Power Systems and present business case justification.
- Degree in engineering from an accredited university required, plus five to eight years practical experience.
- Knowledge and experience in specification writing, equipment installations, plant layouts and Lean Manufacturing methods.
- Frequent and effective use of Microsoft Office products including MS Project, AutoCAD, and SAP.
- Previous experience with project management, including PMI training and demonstrated project implementation, especially international project work, is a plus.
- Experience and knowledge with LEED certification and inspired building practices, is a plus.
- International travel may be required and could comprise 5-10% of time requirements.
